Minnesota Toxic Pollution Prevention Act

Minnesota Toxic Pollution Prevention Act
The 1990 Minnesota Legislature passed the Minnesota Toxic Pollution Prevention Act.  The legislation includes these major features:

  • Establishes state policy encouraging the prevention of toxic pollution.
  • Provides technical assistance to help companies prevent toxic pollution by expanding the responsibilities and staff of the Minnesota Technical Assistance Program (MnTAP).
  • Provides matching grants to help companies study or demonstrate the feasibility of applying specific technologies and methods to prevent pollution.
Requires each facility reporting toxic chemical releases to develop a toxic pollution prevention plan establishing goals for reducing or eliminating these releases.  In addition, these facilities must submit annual progress reports to the Minnesota Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA) Program.

For assistance in preparing your pollution prevention plan and establishing a pollution prevention program go to MnTAP's web site at: http://mntap.umn.edu/prevention/index.htm

Pollution Prevention Progress Report form is available here:
The Minnesota EPCRA Program has established a web-based reporting system which will allow you to submit your 2008 Pollution Prevention Progress Report (P2PR) by the July 1, 2009 reporting deadline. In January, 2009, the letter below was mailed to you and included your username and temporary password.  Sample Letter
